(Parent)hetical
It’s the breaking of the f(our)th wall, a chip perhaps in the mortar of expected dialogue. It says, Welcome. It’s dramatic irony as it was traditionally de(fine)ed and not just slang, not just an everyday word like Mom or Dad or Stepmother or dead or unav(ail)able or tir(ing). It’s a side track for the audience, an unanticipated trip into the author as (parent)al figure (who) leads on with her plot, h(is) character (an)d any other it that is wrapped up in the person, place, thing or (idea) of a noun.
